5 Veneer Myths Debunked

You don’t have to be a movie star to benefit from the smile-enhancing effects of dental veneers. Most people would like to improve their smile in one fashion or another. If your teeth are discoloured or crooked, translucent porcelain veneers represent an excellent way to refresh your smile.

Dental veneers were invented in the 1930s. Despite their longstanding use, myths surrounding them persist. Here are 5 myths about veneers that we’d like to debunk.

  • 1) People Will Know I’m Wearing Them: While that may have been the case years ago, veneers have advanced considerably over the decades. We use porcelain veneers that are custom-matched to the colour of your natural teeth, so it’s unlikely that anybody will know you’re wearing them.
  • 2) Veneers Will Break Easily: Did you know that the durable porcelain we use to fabricate veneers is as strong as your tooth enamel? It’s important to remember, however, to care for your veneers properly. By practicing good oral hygiene and visiting us for checkups every six months, you can ensure that your veneers last for a long time.
  • 3) I’ll Have to Lose a Lot of My Tooth: Though we will need to remove a layer of your tooth to make room for the veneer, it’s only a thin layer (less than a millimetre).
  • 4) Getting Veneers Is Painful: Because we will provide you with a local anaesthetic (if necessary) before the veneers are applied, the process is entirely comfortable.
  • 5) Veneers Will Make My Teeth Sensitive: If you experience any sensitivity during the process, it will only be when you’re wearing temporary veneers — while your permanent ones are being crafted. After the permanent veneers are placed, any sensitivity should be gone.

If you’d like to rejuvenate your smile, consider dental veneers. We have the expertise to help you achieve a stunning smile!
